From FACE to College Freshman
When Sophia joined the American Horse School FACE program as a preschooler, she was taking her first steps into learning.

Family Enrichment
Empowers parents and caregivers as their child's first and most important teacher. Through culturally responsive education, family support, and connections to community resources, families build the knowledge, confidence, and skills to promote healthy development and kindergarten readiness from the very beginning.
Prekindergarten
Prekindergarten
Prepares our youngest learners (ages 4-5) with a solid foundation in the critical skills required to be successful in kindergarten using a consistent curriculum with aligned assessments across all sites.
Adult Education
Adult Education
Programs focused on educational advancement and career readiness for adult learners using national College and Career Readiness Standards. The program meets learners where they are, providing individualized support to help adults reach educational, professional, personal, and family goals.
FACE Program Results and Impact
FACE serves 53 Native American communities across 10 states. Through its three core components, Prekindergarten, Adult Education, and Family Enrichment, FACE engages the entire family, providing targeted resources and services that meet the unique needs of each community while integrating local language and culture.
The FACE program is directly aligned with the Bureau of Indian Education's (BIE) Vision - Excellence in Student-Centered, Indian Education - and FACE educators and staff work daily to accomplish the BIE Mission: In partnership with Tribal nations, the BIE promotes a culturally-based, comprehensive education that prepares and empowers students to be healthy and successful.
FACE supports the whole family and delivers measurable results. In SY 2024–2025, more than 80% of prekindergarten students met kindergarten-readiness benchmarks.

American Horse School
American Horse School
American Horse School in Allen, South Dakota, demonstrated program excellence throughout the 2025-2026 school year. Selected as this year’s FACE site of the year, AHS showed strong growth in enrollment and participation throughout the school year. More than 80% of prekindergarten students attending AHS met kindergarten readiness benchmarks by end of the school year. Led by Site Coordinator Jennifer May, the American Horse School FACE program remains focused on excellence in education and service to the community.
